Relocating a business can be quite an undertaking, even if you are planning to move only a few miles away. Thankfully, there are a few tips that you can use to help moving day go more smoothly for you, your moving crew, your employees, and your customers.
Announce Your Upcoming Move As Soon As You Have A Solid Moving Date
Customers like being made to feel as though they are a part of what is going on with your business. This is especially true for businesses that offer services which their customers will need on a regular basis, such as a doctor's office, hair salon, or childcare center.
In order to ensure your customers are prepared for your upcoming move, be sure to announce your intentions as soon as you have a solid moving date. You will also want to hang signage both in and outside your current location in order to remind customers of your upcoming move, as well as any downtime you may experience as a result.
If you know certain customers will require your services during or directly after the week of your move, be sure to contact these customers to confirm the date of their appointments and the location of those appointments so that there is no confusion. This will help to prevent customers from showing up while you are moving and avoid the loss of customers due to a misunderstanding regarding the location where their next appointment will take place.
Always Use Color Coded Labels To Identify Boxes
Sorting through hundreds of boxes once you get to your new location can be an incredibly time consuming process if you are forced to stop and read the label on each box in order to determine what part of the company it belongs in. Thankfully, this task can be made much faster and easier by making use of color coded labels.
In order to benefit from this labeling system, simply assign a different colored label to each department or office within your company. For instance, blue boxes may belong to the accounting department, while red boxes belong to reception.
Creating a master list that includes the meaning of all assigned colors can help both you and your employees to quickly sort through boxes once you arrive at your new location. You can also choose to hang colored signs in the different areas of the building on moving day. These signs should correspond with the colored label that has been assigned to that area of the company. This will allow your moving crew to quickly place the boxes in the area where they belong rather than simply creating a large pile of boxes for you to sort through later.
